Jakarta, August 10, 2024 – Prof.
Ts. Dr. Shafinar Binti Ismail, President of the International
Association of Economic and Business (IAEB), delivered an insightful International
Guest Lecture titled "Debt and Economic Growth"
on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Amphitheater 405.
The lecture was attended by students, faculty
members, and academics from various institutions, offering an in-depth analysis
of the complex relationship between national debt and economic growth. Prof.
Shafinar explored both theoretical frameworks and real-world examples,
discussing how debt, when managed properly, can contribute to economic
development, while also examining the risks of unsustainable debt levels.
In her presentation, Prof. Shafinar
highlighted the challenges faced by many developing countries, especially in
balancing borrowing for infrastructure and social development while avoiding
long-term financial instability. "Debt, when utilized strategically, can
act as a catalyst for growth, but it requires careful management and policies
to ensure it does not become a burden on future generations," she stated.
